Shadow of Memories returns…..

Here at the TGL we love rooting for the underdog. And the PS2 has hundreds of underdogs in its back catalogue. Back in 2000 when the PS2 launched I can remember watching a Konami preview video for upcoming PS2 titles. It was entitled ‘The Storm Approaches’ if I remember. MGS 2 was in there, so was Silent Hill 2, the original Zone of the Enders and International Superstar Soccer, PES’ ugly and kinda crap cousin. Also there was a stategy game called Ring of Red (which I know TGL’s Joe really enjoyed) and a mystery solving game called Shadow of Memories. The latter turned out to be quite an original and playable novel little title that nobody played and probably sold like 12 copies worldwide. I was one of those 12. Anyway, poor sales aside, all the magazines and websites loved it. I call it ‘ ICO Syndrome’. I just coined that phrase. It’s mine.

Anyway, Konami have been busy of late and they’ve dusted off  Shadow of Memories (Shadow of Destiny in America) and are going to port this to PSP. Awesome. You really should pick this up. Good work Konami. And while were on a Konami buzz, you should head down to Gamestop because I see more and more of them stocking Konami re-issues of PS2 titles Silent 2,3,4 (The Room), MGS Substance and the elusive and excellent Zone of the Enders 2. Great work again Konami. Gamestop henry Street in Dublin stocks these re-issues as does the Gamestop in Kilkenny city. More and more companies out there could learn a thing or two from Konami’s dedication to reminding us of the games that were great but in the end  simply got away from all of us.

Shadow of Memories was released in 2001 and was also ported to the Xbox and PC in 2002

I remember seeing this when it first came out. I must have been about 12 and I think the puzzles were a bit too confusing for me back then, maybe I should give this re-release a try!
